White Center ground, weather, and permits
HistoryLink describes White Center as a plateau at Seattle’s southwest edge, running from Puget Sound toward the Duwamish River. The county’s White Center Ponds, between SW Roxbury Street and SW 100th Street, take runoff from 72 acres it calls highly urbanized and mostly impervious, and the water moves on through Mallard Lake and Hicklin Lake to Salmon Creek and Puget Sound. Soil still varies by lot, so a test hole beats a regional guess.
In the unincorporated area, permits come from King County’s Department of Local Services, Permitting Division. Its critical areas rules cover landslide, erosion, and steep slope hazards, streams, wetlands, and flood zones, and its iMap shows only the general location of some of them. SW Roxbury Street is Seattle’s southern boundary, and White Center straddles it. Burien annexed the southern part of North Highline in 2010, so we confirm which government covers your parcel before we quote.
Nearby, we also build in Burien, West Seattle, Tukwila, and Normandy Park, and we serve the rest of Pierce and South King County.
