Federal Way ground, weather, and permits
Federal Way sits on the Puget Sound lowland, where dense glacial till lies at or near the surface in many places. Till drains slowly, so rain collects in the looser soil above it, especially from late fall to early spring. That’s why base preparation and drainage get so much of our attention on Federal Way jobs. Sea-Tac, just up the road, averages about 39 inches of precipitation a year, and November is the wettest month.
Permits for building work, retaining walls, and stairs go through the City of Federal Way. Work in the public right-of-way, such as sidewalks, curbs, and driveway aprons, has its own rules, and parts of the city are mapped as steep slopes or other environmentally sensitive areas that get extra review. Before we quote a job, we look up what the city requires for your lot.
Nearby, we also build in Des Moines, Kent, Auburn, Milton, Fife, and Edgewood, and we serve the rest of Pierce and South King County.
